Tunisia imposes curfew in Tunis to quell protests

This BBC News article reports on the Tunisian governments efforts to cease violent protests in the capital and surrounding areas.  A night-time curfew is being enforced after several violent protests throughout the capital region were met with riot police firing tear gas to disperse the crowds.  They protests are in response to rising food and fuel prices, high unemployment and corruption.  President Zine El Abidine Ben Ali has fired his Interior Minister Rafik Belhaj Kacem and has released some of those arrested in attempts to quell the protests and appease human rights organizations that are reporting on violations by the state police.  The Tunisian government states 21 citizens have died over the weekend while human rights organizations report that the number may be as high as 50.
