Protest organizer arrested in Yemen

Al Jazeera is reporting on the arrest of Ms. Tawakul Karman, who organized protests at Sanaa University against Yemeni President Ali Abdullah Saleh.  Presently here whereabouts are unknown.  The article also does a good job explaining the roll of the Tunisian protests in this latest incident of protest, as well as the legitimate grievances of Yemenis with their economic condition.

Nearly half of Yemen’s population lives below the poverty line of $2 a day and does not have access to proper sanitation. Less than a tenth of the roads are paved. Tens of thousands have been displaced from their homes by conflict, flooding the main cities.

The government is riddled with corruption and has little control outside the capital. Its main source of income – oil – could run dry in a decade.
