Libya worsens

Libya is in chaos, at this point.  I am always uncomfortable posting information that isn’t coming from reliable sources, but in this case the state is keeping out foreign media, the internet is down, and almost all reports are based on phone calls from Libyan citizens inside the country, so I’m going to list some information that is unverified.  Rebels/protesters now hold Libya’s second city, Benghazi.  Several generals have refused to fire on protesters despite orders from Qaddafi.  There appear to be paramilitary elements brought in from other countries to the cities to fire on protesters (this is based on the mismatching uniforms and skin color of the militiamen).  Warplanes are also being used to strafe crowds.  The Human Rights Watch group has a tally of 223 dead thus far.  There are rumors that Qaddafi has fled to Venezuela.  Here is the latest New York Times article on the matter.
