As Regimes Fall in Arab World, Al Qaeda Sees History Fly By

The NY Times provides an analysis on how the movements for democracy in the Middle East will affect Al-Qaeda and like-minded groups.  Many analysts believe that theses movements will be detrimental to Al-Qaeda as they have found themselves sitting on the sideline as many of the autocratic rulers that they preach against have fallen.  However, others believe that these movements will only re-energize terrorist groups with thousands of jailed Islamists being released and many individuals facing violence from regimes attempting to stay in power.  Only time will tell us how the movements for freedom in the Middle East will affect groups like Al-Qaeda  and how the US will be involved in the region.
