Egyptians rally

Tahrir Square was the host today of two messages that brought out thousands, according to Al Jazeera.  Many came out to show support for Egyptian unity, specifically between Muslims and Christians, after a week that saw a large amount of violence between the two groups.  Others were there to support Palestine, and encourage reconciliation between Hamas and Fatah.  Those supporters are working to organize a march from Cairo to Gaza.  Most authority figures in Egypt and Palestine, however, thinks this to be a dumb idea.

One person who will not have to worry about a possible march is George Mitchell, who has decided to step down from his position of US envoy to the Middle East, where his central focus was negotiating peace between Israel and Palestine, reports BBC News.

US Secretary of State Hillary Clinton said: “As well as anyone in his generation, George understands the slow, hard work of diplomacy, the art of compromise and the indispensable role of American leadership in the world.”
