A big week for Israel-Palestine

Mahmoud Abbas wrote an op-ed in the New York Times, and you can read it here.  The article comes before a big week for Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu.

Mr. Netanyahu is scheduled to meet Mr. Obama at the White House on Friday, address a large gathering of American supporters on Monday and then a joint meeting of Congress next Tuesday.

The development of Hamas and Fatah coming together, at least for the sake of appearances, mixed with the Arab Spring, mixed with the UN push the Palestinians will make in the fall, mixed with Netanyahu’s sometimes contentious relationship with President Obama, suggests that the upcoming week and year may prove historic for the resolution of Israel-Palestine issues.  Arguments exist that given the instability in Syria and Egypt, Israel’s strategic interests favor peace with Palestine in a major way.
