Syrians turn out again

A few days after President Assad of Syria declared that the protests were done, they were not.  Protesters took to the streets throughout the country, and they paid the price with at least 27 dead.  For now there are no political developments, just a show of perseverance on the part of the regime’s opponents.  One interesting development is this:

There were more reports of violence in Damascus, the Syrian capital, where a witness told Al Jazeera that regime supporters with iron bars had attacked a group of 500 to 700 worshippers as they left the Dahabiyyeh mosque in the Old City, after Friday prayers.

The Old City is symbolic capital of the state.  If protests begin there, it will add a major new element to the movement.
